Homer E. Chearney, 83, of Acme and a current resident of Hilltop Manor, Donegal died Saturday January 30, 2010 at his residence. He was born August 1,1926 in Mount Pleasant a son of the late Rudolph and Beulah Snyder Chearney. Homer was formerly employed by White's Lime and Fertilizer and Kings Lumber Co. He was a member of the Saltlick Twp. Volunteer Fire Department, White Community Center and the Donegal American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving as a coxswain during W.W. II. Homer attended the Buchanan Church of God. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Alice Brooks Chearney; two brothers, Edward and Dale "Dick" Chearney and a sister, Velma Ash. He is survived by his children, Sheila Joan Suhan and her husband Allan of Scottdale, Patricia Nicholson and her husband Kenneth of Normalville, Joseph Chearney and his wife Tracy of Donegal and Elaine Kunkle and her husband Neil of Mount Pleasant; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, George Chearney and his wife Wilda of Acme and Herbert Chearney and his wife Donna of Acme; two sisters, Phyllis Mentzer of Harpers Ferry, Va. and Kathryn Jones and her husband James of Pawley's Island, SC and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Friends will be received on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Clyde Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., corner of Municipal Building Road and Route 711, Melcroft, Pa. where services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday with Rev. Tim Beatty officiating. Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Excela Health Hospice, 134 Industrial Park Road, Suite 16001 Greensburg, Pa. 15601 or to the Saltlick Twp.
