Frank Scott Mathews, Sr, 97, was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 6, 1912, to Chessley Howard and Bessie Chandler Scott Mathews, passed away February 3, 2010 in Many, LA. He was educated in 13 different schools in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Arkansas and Tennessee. He worked in the oil field, lumber industry, and served four years in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He taught band and orchestra at DeQuincy High School, during which time he had bands at Grand Avenue School and Ragley School. He entered the Life Insurance business in 1957 as an agent for Southland Life Insurance Company, retiring after fifty years. He taught private violin lessons most of his life. He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and DeQuincy Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of First Baptist Church since 1949 and participated in the worship at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church for several years. Mr. Mathews is married to Eva Mathews, a resident of Sabine Retirement and Rehabilitation Center where he also was a resident for the last four months. He and Mrs. Mathews are the proud parents of one son and two daughters. Scotty and his wife, Jackie of Lake Charles, Carolyn and her husband Bruce Gandy of Many, and DeAnne Patrick and her husband Doug of Many. They also have 7 grandchildren, 6 great – grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. His funeral will be 2pm, Friday, February 5, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of DeQuincy. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Snider Funeral Home. Visitation will begin today from 5pm-9pm at the funeral home and Friday from 10am-2pm at the church.
