SHOCKEY, WILLARD C., 77 - of Ventnor, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 in Galloway.
Born and raised in Atlantic City, he was a graduate of Atlantic City High School, and attended the NJ School of Commerce. He was employed for 40 years with the South Jersey Gas Co., starting as a clerk, salesman, and retiring as a Corrosion Technician. He attended many colleges across the country for gas, kitchen design. He was a US Navy Veteran and was a former Atlantic City Life Guard, rowing around the island in 1955. Willard was a member of the Atlantic Home Builders Association, Kiwanis Club, and was an Assistant coach with the Ventnor Traveling Boys Baseball, and an umpire with the Ventnor Little League and girls softball. Willard was an exceptional husband, father and Pop Pop. He taught his children and granddaughters that with pride, love and perseverance you could attain anything in life you wanted. Willard always thought of his family first and then himself. He was a collector of carousel horses, duck plates and anything pertaining to Mickey Mouse. In his younger days he was an avid fisherman, duck hunter and golfer. Willard always enjoyed his trips to FL with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who came in contact with him. Predeceased by father Jess and Anna (Greer) he is survived by his loving wife of 49 and one-half years, Betty (Reiff); two daughters, Helen Ann Shockey, B.J. and husband Barry Jacobson; son, Willard and his wife Charlene; and three granddaughters, the loves of his life, Jessica, Kristen and Melissa, all of Egg Harbor Township. He also leaves behind his favorite sisters-in-law, Marylou Reiff of Ventnor, Frances Sgro of AZ, Peg Brasko of TX, his extra special aunt Betty (Greer) Hitchens of FL, and many cousins.
Viewing will he held Saturday 9-ham at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 7300 Ventnor Ave., Ventnor. Burial, Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Assoc. or the American Diabetes Foundation.
