Rev. Alvin Peter Williams Doctor of Devinity, the son of Lewis and Nancy (Jump) Williams, a Baptist minister, and a grandson to Joseph and Sarah (Musick) Williams.

He was born in St. Louis County, Missouri on March 13, 1813. His father, Lewis, who was also a Baptist Minister of great power. He also had three brothers who were Baptist Ministers of ability, Perry D., I.T. and M.F. His nephew, Elder J.D. Murphy DD was a preacher of decided ability.

Elder Alvin Peter was a self made scholar. He was proficient in Hebrew and Greek as well as his mother tongue. He was master of the English language, as those who have seen him preach and those who have read his books will testify.

As a theologian he was without a superior in his day. He was looked upon by those who knew him best as a second Andrew Fuller. He could repeat whole chapters of the Bible from Memory.

He literally preached the word and he was mighty in the scriptures. He knew philosophy and he knew that philosophy was not able to save a life, therefor he preached the preaching that the Lord bid him to preach.

Alvin Peter was married to Elizabeth (Armour) Williams with whom he had nine children, Ann J., Harriet N., Robert H., Malcolm, Albert J. Williams, Mary M,. James, Samuel and Catherine.

Reverend Williams met an untimely death caused by his horse running away and upsetting his buggy.
