The world is a darker place today but Heaven is much brighter with the passing of Jessie Mae "Daisy" Turner Brown who was called to light up the Heavens on January 21, 2010 at her home in Conroe, Texas. Mrs. Brown was born 23 March 1922 in Montgomery, Texas, the 5th of the 5 children born to Luther "Lue" Isaac and Sarah Lula Gregg Turner. She was the granddaughter of early Montgomery County pioneers, William Cecil and Emily Jane Hemphill Turner and Hiram John and La Vonia Carlisle Gregg. Mrs. Brown accepted Jesus as her savior in her early childhood and was of the Baptist faith.
Mrs. Brown received her education at the schools of Montgomery, Texas and later moved to Conroe, Texas where she met her husband, Martin Henry "M.H." Brown, who was the projectionist at the Liberty Theater. "M.H." and "Daisy" were married 19 July 1941 and soon moved to Jacksonville, Texas where their 2 sons were born.
In 1946, Mr. Brown was transferred again with his job to Houston where they made their first home on Shepherd Drive and later on East 25th Street. In 1950, Mr. Brown was transferred to the Denver Harbor area where he worked at the Venus and Globe Theaters and lived on Zoe Street. Mrs. Brown worked in Houston for many years in the commercial catering business owning her own fleet of trucks. However, her love had always been in flowers. She became a student of Bess High Professional Flower Arrangement and later opened her own flower shop, The Golden Key, on Heights Boulevard in Houston, Texas where she furnished many beautiful funeral arrangements for Heights Funeral Home. Mr. and Mrs. Brown retired to the Conroe area in the 1970's where they made their home on Jefferson Chemical Road and later on Jeffcote Road. Mrs. Brown had many hobbies which included decorating beautiful wedding cakes and making ceramic dolls and decorating them with the beautiful clothes she made for them. She continued working with flowers by owning and operating The Golden Key Flower Shop in Conroe.
Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her husband, M.H. Brown, in 1998; parents, Lue and Lula Turner; step-mother, Rosie Hayden Turner; son, Sheldon Roy Brown; granddaughter, Kimberly L. Brown; sisters, Nina Evaloria Turner, Lois Lorraine Turner and Lula Bell Turner Lang Quarles; brother, William "Bill" Norris Turner; and special nephew, William O. "Bobby" Lang.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her son, Wayne Brown, who has lovingly cared for her for the past 15 years; grandchildren, Treschelle Brown, Gary Brown and wife Carrie, Tara Brown, Lacey Brown Sanchez and husband Rudy Sanchez Jr. and Andrew "Andy" Brown; great grandchildren, Alex Brown, Abby Brown, Audrey Brown, Ethan Sanchez and Brandie Brown.
Mrs. Brown is also survived by her special niece, Betty Lang Walker of Altair, Texas, whom she looked upon as her daughter, giving her support, guidance and love from her early childhood to the present time, always being there for her all her life. In growing up, Betty lived with her aunt off and on for many years and always considered her as her 2nd mother.
Other survivors include, loving niece, Sarah Turner Wilkerson of Conroe who has given of herself to help Mrs. Brown in many special ways from cooking, cleaning and just being there for her; nephew, Ed Turner who looked up to Mrs. Brown for guidance, support and much love and his wife Gale of Goliad, Texas; Hazel Lang, widow of William "Bobby" Lang; Ed "Buster" Walker of Altair, Texas, husband of Betty Walker; niece, Sylvia Brown and husband Wayland of Marshall, Texas; and daughter-in-law, Mary Brown, widow of Roy Brown.
Family was always very important to Mrs. Brown, and her great nieces and nephews were dear to her. She was always there for them in their time of need to help them in any way she could, giving them her support and encouragement. Surviving also are great nieces, Darlene Lang Leathers, Sandra Walker, Sharon Walker Anderson, Janie Turner Hellickson and Barbie Turner Venables; and great nephews, Mike Lang and Kenneth Lang.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Betty Lang Walker delivering the eulogy. Interment will be at Pool Cemetery, Montgomery, Texas. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, January 24, 2010 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home. Pallbearers for the service will be Mike Lang, Kenneth Lang, Omar Massey, Rudy Sanchez, Jr., Tom Turner and Ed "Buster" Walker. Honorary pallbearers are David Keller and Ed Turner.
