---OBITUARY---
Donald Dean "Don/Pooch" McDaniel, 78, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully July 28, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 24, 1930, son of Dean Chester and Martha Louise (Mann) McDaniel. He graduated from Jamesport, Missouri, High School.
Don served as a Sergeant in the National Guard from 1951-1954, remaining in the Reserves through 1957. In his earlier years, Don was the owner/operator of McDaniel Ditching Company. He retired from Riley Equipment and Contracting Company in 1995, as President and Chairman of the Board, after over 30 years of service. He also served on the board with Diamond Engineering.
He was a natural at baseball and softball. He enjoyed bowling and was passionate about golf and travel. He was a member of Lake Quivira Country Club and Isla del Sol Yacht and Country Club in St. Petersburg, Florida. Don was a longtime member and usher at Shawnee United Methodist Church.
Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia (Womboldt) McDaniel; children Donna and husband Barry Harrison, Marsha and husband Ross Rametta, Debbie and husband Bruce Stone, Donald and wife Kara McDaniel; grandchildren Holly, Dave, Jenna, Michael, Lauren, Philip, Katelyn, Melissa, Bryce, Colin and Aidan; and great-grandchild Logan. He is also survived by siblings Norma McDaniel and friend Ethel Ritter, Carl and wife Sandy McDaniel, Betty and husband Bob Brodzin, William and wife Barbara McDaniel and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:30-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 31, at Shawnee United Methodist Church, 10700 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas.
A celebration of life luncheon will be held following the funeral service at Lake Quivira Country Club. Interment will follow in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee United Methodist Church, Lake Quivira Garden Club, American Cancer Society and/or a charity of your choice.
