Maria Elizabeth Chavez, 26, a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, and resident of Houma, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010.

She is survived by her parents, Jose Chavez and Leticia Chavez; two daughters, Tatyana Smith and Sariah Smith; three brothers, Victor Gallo, Julio Gallo and Ramon Chavez; two sisters, Rosie Gallo and Antonieta Gallo; and her grandfather, Ramon Chavez Sr.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tyari Smith Jr.; and her grandparents, Jose Perez and Maria Rangel.

She was a Catholic and employed as a medical assistant.

Community Funeral Home of Houma and All Souls Funeral Home of Long Beach, Calif., are in charge of arrangements.
