SHAW, JAMES ROGER "SONNY" - Of Jackson, passed away January 15, 2009, age 72. He was born in Jackson, March 28, 1936. Preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Mable Shaw. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Patricia; his siblings, Elaine (Joseph) Cartwright, Marianne (Robert) Fowler, and Jeanette (Beckman) Mordica; his children, Patricia (Willie) Croskey, James R. (Rebecca) Shaw, John J. (Sarah) Shaw, and Mathew C. Shaw; his stepchildren, Juan Steven (Jennifer) Paez and Jose A. Paez; his cherished grandchildren, Cortney, Victoria, Anthony, Ethan, Brandon, Hannah, Payton, Maria and Stevan; and many nieces and nephews. Over the years, he worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation, and 30 years in the building and remodeling industry. He served proudly in the Navy as a young man, and retired as a Sergeant First Class from Michigan National Guard, as a member of 119 Field Artillery. He felt privileged to be involved in many Community and Human Service organizations such as National Child Abuse, Jackson N.W. Kiwanis Club, his beloved, Toys for Tots, and Love Inc. In his younger years, he was an active member of various area theater groups, and was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed oil painting and singing. He marveled at the beauty of Roses. He loved God, Country, people and life, and cherished his family and friends. He loved to talk and was never able to "keep it brief, Jim". Funeral services will be held at Brookside United Methodist Church Monday 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Chad Parmalee officiating. Burial Hillcrest cemetery. Visitation Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home and Monday 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
