OAKLAND - Shirley Fern Stem, 78, of Oakland, died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at her residence.
Born Jan. 16, 1929, in Westminster, she was a daughter of the late William "Dick" and Mabel (Myers) Stonesifer. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey A. Stem; and her granddaughter, Shekinah Hamrick.
Mrs. Stem was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving is her husband, Clarence Stem of Oakland; seven sons, Gregory Stem of Hanover, Pa., Michael Stem of Oakland, Karl Stem of Gormania, W.Va., Kenneth Stem of Martinsburg, Thomas Stem of Oakland, Scott Stem of Palo Alto, Calif., and John Stem of Berryville, Va.; seven daughters, Matha Hayhurst of Oakland, Cynthia Stem of Mount Storm, W.Va., Cheryl Yommer of Mountain Lake Park, Kathy Mattingly of Oakland, Sheila Hetrick of Martinsburg, W.Va., Debora Hamrick of Hagerstown, and Vicky Hamrick of Carolina, W.Va.; one sister, June Mackley of York, Pa.; 30 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland, on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Thursday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church of Oakland with the Rev. Father Don Parson as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Garrett Memorial Gardens.
