Ed was born and raised in Maine where the family farmed and were lobstermen. He was descended from the early Puritan settlers of Massachusetts. He went to work at Crompton Knowles in Worcester, Massachuestts when a young man. He met and married Elsie Lukko in Worcester County. They moved to Los Angeles County California in the early 1930s. They had a small ranch and he worked at the General Motors assembly plant. They retired to Seal Beach.
