William S. Chaucer "West"

West was born on December 20, 1920 in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania. He attended school in Sharpsville until he move to Hungarian Settlement, Louisiana in 1929. He continued his education in Albany and worked with his family on the farm. West got his nickname as a very young age. You see he always wanted to go west and play with the cowboys and Indians. So everyone started calling him West and the nickname stayed with him throughout his entire life. West joined the United States Army during World War II. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper and was sent to Italy, during the European campaign. West returned home to Hungarian Settlement in 1945. Here he would marry a local Hungarian girl, Annie Julia Duczer. They were married on June 22, 1947. Together they had three sons, William "Billy", John Taft and Donald Robert. West carried on the Hungarian tradition of his family, he work his farm raising strawberries. In his spare time he loved to fish and make his home made wines. Everyone around the community knew West had a reputation for his fine wines. West was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church and American Legion Post 258. He was preceded in death by a brother, John "Pee Wee" Chaucer, sisters Ethel C. Tuger. Mary C. Ivanisky and Julia C. Sziszak. He has one surviving sister, Helen C. Galladora. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
