Herman "Irish" Miller Dillon was the son of George Allen and Margaret Jane Jones Dillon. He married Esther May Downing in 1934, later divorced. He married Refugio "Ruth" Garcia, later divorced. They were the adoptive parents of James Herman Dillon. Herman married Mary Casis French in 1971.

Married Mary Casis French, June 5, 1971 in Elko Nev. Resident of Carbon county since 1945. Fromer employee of Kaiser Steel Corp. Sunnyside Mine, retired 1973. Member UMWA, Kaiser Local. Survived by wife, Mary; two sons, Charles and George; stepchildren, Douglas Kee, Elanore Rodriquez, all of Salt Lake City, Rita Martinez, Katherine French, both of East Carbon. Grave side services will be held at Layfayette Cemetery, Layfayette, Colo. Rewritten from obituary, Emery County Progress, 10 July 1985, Pg.9.
