"David Vance Hendry 1933-2009
David Vance Hendry, 76, passed away at home on Dec. 17, 2009.
Born March 18, 1933 in Hillview, Ill. to Helen Rose (Funkhouser) and John Kenneth Hendry Sr. David enlisted in the Army in 1948, serving his country as an Aviator in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, Aviator Badge, Air Medal and numerous other accolades. By the time he retired in 1972, he had obtained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer.
On Feb. 14, 1975, David married Elaine Marie Corbett in Jonesboro, Ill. His brother Charles Hendry performed the ceremony. David and Elaine moved to Cochise, Ariz. later that year, where they have happily resided until now.
David was a long time member of Broken Arrow Baptist Church in Sunsites, Ariz. He will especially be remembered for his love of the Lord and his keen sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife Elaine of Cochise, Ariz.; son Colin Hendry (Brenda) of Austin, Texas; daughters Timberly Le (Tony) of Orange, Calif., Danielle Bettencourt (Justin) of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; five grandchildren; his brother John Kenneth Hendry Jr. and sister Vilena Meyer (Andrew), both of Holland, Ind.
Services were held on Dec. 22, 2009 at Broken Arrow Baptist Church with burial in Cochise Cemetery. Services entrusted to Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematory of Willcox, Ariz."
