He is survived by two sons, Joel Benjamin Jr of Virginia and Robert Benjamin of Thibodaux, Louisiana, a daughter, Eleanor Knight Bowles of Virginia and ex-wife Marilyn Jane Powell Bowles Mangum Domin of Thibodaux, LA. He married Marilyn in 1959 and they were divorced in 1961. She is the daughter of Bill "Billie" Frank POWELL (1913 – 1994) and Jamie Maxine LEE, natives of Arkansas.
He served in the US NAVY during WORLD WAR II and was recognized for bravery. He was a licensed mortician but spent most of his life selling insurance for the Combined Insurance Company in Virginia, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Alabama.
