Carrie was born in the house built by her Grandfather (Dennis Beach Stone) in Orange, Connecticut across the street from the Congregational Church. It is maintained by the Orange Historical Society and called the Stone-Otis House. Her Stone ancestors were charter members of the Church. Her entire ancestry was Connecticut Yankee. After her Grandmother, Sarah Ann (Shelton) Stone died the whole family moved to Smith County, Kansas where her Father (Legrand Stone) and Grandfather each homesteaded 160 acres. Her Mother Mary Emily (Tomlinson) Stone was the "backbone" of this operation taking care of two households. Later Carrie raised her own family in the house built there by her Father. The house and farm are still in family possession. She moved to Downs when her sons took over running the Stone Family homestead after World War One. She was a kind and loving person all her life. She was deaf from an early age.
