Hershel Ray Lawhorn was born March 18, 1939 in Wagoner to Nancy Elizabeth (Lane) and Grady Lawhorn, Sr. He passed away Monday morning, Dec. 21 in Wagoner at the age of 70. Ray married Linda Shaffer Feb. 17, 1994 in Miami, Okla. In April of 1994, he retired from McDonell Douglas as a hydro press operator. Ray served in the U.S. Navy and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joanna Blair, Daughter Ellen Eller and grandson, Waco Eller. Ray is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home in Wagoner; his son Eric Lawhorn and wife, Robin, of Tahlequah; step children, Shawn Cowett, Anthony Cowett, Gary Cowett, Bryce Cowett and Kendall Hylton; grandchildren, Cathy and Rachel Lawhorn, Jayson and Derek Eller, London and Taylor Cowett, Braeden Verrett and Amber Smith; great grandchildren, Hayden Eller, Kavon Grey and Kayden Eller; brother, Grady Lawhorn, Jr. and wife Jane of Wagoner; sister, Joyce Schultz and husband Cleo of Wagoner; a very special friend Dana Chitwood and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 26 in the Hersman-Nichols Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Carl Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Hersman-Nichols Funeral Home.
