"The community was shocked this morning from one end of the city to the other when they learned of the death of Harry J. Gillen, who died at his home, 215 Fayard street, this morning at 9:30 o'clock. The word of the demise of Harry was passed from friend to friend, every one of whom received it with deepest sorrow. Mr. Gillen, who had been a life long resident of Biloxi, was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him and he readily made friends wherever he went. In Biloxi his friends were numbered by the hundreds. Several years ago he branched out into business life engaging in the business of the Biloxi Mercantile Company with his brother Frank J. Gillen and soon became one of Howard avenue's prominent young businessmen. Mr. Gillen at all times took the deepest interest in the city's welfare exerting every effort for the betterment of conditions both for the community and citizens who reside and are in business here. Mr. Gillen is survived by his wife, nee Miss Gertrude Richter, a little daughter, Mary, a mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Mark J. Gillen, four sisters, Mrs. Ed Cox, of New Orleans; Mrs. U. S. Joachim, Mrs. August Wachenfield and Miss Agnes Gillen of this city. Four brothers also survive him. They are Frank J., Eddie, of this city, Ralph, of New Orleans and Walter Gillen. There also survive him a large number of other relatives, and to them the deepest sympathy of the entire community is extended. Funeral arrangements were not completed this morning but they will be in all probability be held tomorrow. Services will be conducted under the auspices of the Catholic Church with interment in the Biloxi cemetery."
