Friday,evening,5,year old Nathaniel,was getting off the school bus,when a man,who was stopped,decided to pass the bus,and hit Nathaniel.He was transported to the hospital with critical, life threatening injuries,and passed away a short time later.
The manwho was driving the vehicle that struck Nathan, was convicted of manslaughter and is currently serving a 22-year sentence.

Nathan's Law increases the penalty for those committing such an act, including increasing the penalty of passing a stopped school bus while children are present from $200 to $500 to mandatory sanctions of $500 to $5,000. The new law also includes the driver's license being suspended for 30 days and up to a year in jail for the first offense.

Nathaniel Glenn Key, 5, of Laurel, died Friday, Dec. 11, 2009. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery. Rev. Steven Holifield and Rev. Shane Thrash will officiate.He was a student at North Jones and attended Park Haven Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, Andy and Lori Lowe Key of Laurel; two brothers, Drew Key and Louis King, both of Laurel; two sisters, Tessa King and Elizabeth Key, both of Laurel; maternal grandparents, Randy Lowe and wife Mary Lowe of Laurel; maternal grandmother, Connie Lowe of Laurel; paternal grandparents Glenn Key and wife Joan Key of Byram; aunts and uncles, Allen and Karen Key of Byram, Lou and Jada Lowe of Laurel, Alton Daniel of Laurel and Penny Busby of Laurel; special grandmother, Rhonda King of Sandersville, and a host of other family members. Pallbearers will be all soldiers of the 287th Engineering Company.Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
