Melvin spent a few months in Missouri and then returned to Hayes County, where he grew to adulthood on his grandfather Stevens' homestead. He attended country school at Brushy in Frontier County, Nebraska and Valley in Hayes County, Nebraska. He completed the eighth grade and decided to go into ranching and farming.
On Feb. 6, 1941, he married Ellen Russell in Hayes Center, Nebraska. They made their home in rural Hayes County, Nebraska until he purchased the George Easton farm in Frontier County, Nebraska in 1950 where he lived until ill health forced him to move to Senior Living Choices where he resided until his death.
He was a member of the Gideon's and the Maywood Christian Church.
Melvin was welcomed into The Heavenly Home by: his parents Clyde and Esse Brown; granddaughters, Janae Lenz and Bridgett Anderson; and great-grandson, Jake Richardson.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Ellen Brown of Curtis, Nebraska; daughter, Glenda and husband, Richard Lenz of Curtis, Nebraska; son Gordon and wife, Alice of Maywood, Nebraska; brother, Mackay Brown and wife, Betty of Maywood, Nebraska; sister, Marion Hoschouer of Ames, Iowa and a host of friends and relatives.
