Maxine B. Baylis, age 91, of Grand Haven, passed away Monday, November 30, 2009, at North Ottawa Community Hospital. She was born in Cambridge, IA to Roy and Sarah (Metheny) Gharst on October 31, 1918. Maxine was raised in Ypsilanti, MI and lived in Ann Arbor and Brooklyn, MI before moving to Grand Haven where she lived for 20 years. She was married to Lloyd Baylis on October 5, 1940. He passed away on October 15, 1992. Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes and was involved with Hannah Circle Group. She loved playing cards, doing crosswords, and spending time with her friends at Pinewood Place. Maxine is survived by her daughter, Bonnie (William) Trap of Grand Haven; son, William Baylis of Spring Lake; grandchildren: Jennifer (Ted) Fricano of Spring Lake and Daniel (Misti) Trap of Holland; great-grandchildren: Josiah & Isaac Trap, and Max, Ross & Elise Fricano; a brother-in-law Robert (Betty) Baylis of Homer, MI; and special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; sister, Bernetta Ward; and daughter-in-law, Janet Baylis. The funeral service for Maxine will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes with Rev. Dan Duncan officiating. Family will greet friends and relatives one hour prior at the church. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one's own choice
