Born 29 Dec. 1925, in Burlington, he was the son of Frank John & Alice (Walker) Hutchcroft. On 17 Jan. 1947, he married Joan Jacoby in Kahoka, MO.
Leo was a 1943 graduate of Mediapolis High School and attended Burlington Junior College and the U of Iowa. He was a World War #2 Navy Veteran, serving at Pearl Harbor from 1944 until 1946, achieving the rank of Petty Officer.
Leo combined his occupational of farming and his position of salesman at A.Y. McDonald until his retirement in 1989. He and his wife retired to Arkansas for 15 years before returning to Burlington.
Leo took his first flying lesson at age 50 achieving his VFR, IFR pilot licenses. This was quite an accomplishment as Leo was afraid of heights. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and golfing. He was a charter member of Indian Hills Golf Club at Morning Sun and a member of the AF&AM Masonic Lodge in Mediapolis.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Hutchcroft of Burlington; two sons, John R. (Linda) Hutchcroft of Holt, MI and Dan (Sherri) Hutchcroft of Burlington; four grandchildren, Heather Perdelwitz, Holly Stout, Jake Hutchcroft and Scott Hutchcroft; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Fern Russell of Mesa, AZ.
His parents, sister Lulu, and brother Clyde preceded him in death.
Private family inurnment will be in Kossuth Cemetery at a later date. A Memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House. According to Leo's wishes, his body has been cremated. (picture)
