Donald William "Jazz" was born January 21, 1921 in Mountaindale a son of Lewis Spencer and Annie Elizabeth Fultz Rice of Mountaindale and was the husband of Carrie Mae Huff Rice.

Donald was a retired Master Seargent, serving 20 years with the US Army, which much was served overseas.His service began in Europe duing World War II, serving under General George S. Patton and later served in Korea. After his military time was completed he was employed fo a number of years at Fort Detrick, prior to his retirement from Civil Service.

Donald was a member of Harriet Chapel Episopal Church of Contoctin Furnace, member Of Mokanna Lodge No. 329, AF&A Masons, Orlando, Fl., VFW PostNo. 8152, Pine Hill, Fl., and the Edwin C. Creager American Legion Post No. 168 of Thurmont.

In addition to his wife Carrie, Donald is survived by these children and their spouses, Judy Deloris Johns and husband James Lewis, Susan Sylvia O'Toole and husband Anthony "Tony" Patrick, Connie Kay Rice, Russell Lewis Rice, Donna Wilma Bollinger and husband Ellmer William "Bill", Eleanor Evaline "Ellie" Gilbert and husband John Thomas "Tom".

He is also survived by the following siblings, Elva C. Sweeney of Thurmont, Edna C. Honts of Frederick, Harvey Eugene Rice of Lewistown, Melvin Oliver Rice of of Mountaindale, Elmer Clayton Rice of Thurmont, Glenn Franklin Rice of Eldon, Mo., and Evelyn Loraine Green of Lewistown, nine grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Masonic Memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home followed by the funeral, officiated by the Rev.Charles O. Shaffer, Harriet Chapel Episcopal Church Pastor, with internment at Union Chapel Cemetery, Daysville Robert E. Daily and sons funeral directors..
