Mr. Coleman was a native and lifelong resident of Biloxi. He was employed as a pipe fitter in the pipe shop at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula for 35 years. He was a member of the Steamfitters Union Local in Pascagoula and was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Preston Coleman Sr. and Hattie Redmond Coleman; a brother, James Preston Coleman Jr.; and a sister, JoAnn Lehman Starr.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Coleman of Biloxi; a daughter, Paula Coleman Cooper of Biloxi; two sons, Smitty Gerald Coleman Jr. of D'Iberville, and Norman Coleman Sr. of Biloxi; three sisters, Mary Cruthirds and Brenda McCormick, both of Latimer, and Jeanie Harris of Ocean Springs; two brothers, Lennis Leo Coleman Sr. of Biloxi and Jerry ''Wayne'' Coleman of Ocean Springs; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes in Biloxi. A service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel with burial in Biloxi City Cemetery.
