Charles Wesley Rich DIES AT HATTIESBURG

Mayor of City Two Terms; Brother of Ex-Mayor Joseph Carlos "Joe" Rich of Mobile, Alabama.

Hattiesburg, Dec. 6.
Charles Wesley Rich ex-mayor of Hattiesburg and one of the most popular men in South Mississippi, died at his home on West Pine street yesterday morning at 11 o'clock after an illness of about two weeks. He was fifty years old.
Captain Rich, as he was familiarly known, was for many years a power in local politics. He served the city six years as mayor when it operated under aldermanic form and was the first mayor elected under commission form of government. His last term expired the first of this year.
For many years before coming to Hattiesburg he was engaged in the sawmill business at Richburg and about twenty-five years ago was one of the largest sawmill operators in the state.
Since moving to this city he had been identified with many local enterprises, besides being active in politics.
He is survived by his widow, mother, two brothers, Joseph C. Rich ex-mayor of Mobile, and Curtis E. Rich, of New Orleans, two sisters, Mrs. Laura Gibbs of Wichita Falls, Texas and Mrs. B. T. Toomer of New Orleans.
Interment will be made in the city cemetery Sunday afternoon.
