Brooklyn Daily Eagle Nov 13, 1920.
One Dead - Others Poisoned
The physicians of the Norwegian Hospital and Dr. James Shay of 526 47th St are puzzled over the death of Mrs. Mary Haiss of 638 50th St who died last evening at the home of her son, John Haiss, 5007 6th Ave after eating supper. The other members of the Haiss family who ate the meal, consisting of creamed cabbage, green peppers, boiled potatoes and lamb chops, also had narrow escapes from death.
Mrs. John Haiss and her daughters Dorothy and Virginia were victims also and only heroic treatment on the part of the attending physicians saved them from death. While nursing her children after the attack Mrs. Helen Haiss succumbed to the malady. The doctors are puzzled about the poisoning and an autopsy will be made on the body of Mrs. Haiss to determine, if possible, the cause.
