A native of Elbert County, Mr. Oglesby was the son of the late Hoke Cecil and Mattie Mary Fortson Oglesby. He served in the U.S. Army Military Police during WWII and assisted with the Nuremburg Trials. He was the Amoco Oil Jobber for many years before retirement, a member of the Georgia Oil Menís Association and Kiwanis. A loving daddy and papa, he was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Nancy Oglesby of Athens and Kim Oglesby Farris (Fred) of Charleston, S.C.; granddaughters, Christina Holton of Athens and Whitney Byrd of Charleston, S.C.; grandson, Benjamin Holton of Athens; sister, Mary Thomas Thomason of Elberton; brothers, Jamie W. Oglesby of Thomasville and Hoke Cecil Oglesby of Athens; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Emerson and Rev. Claude McBride officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Bernstein from noon until 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mary's Hospice House, 1500 Oglethorpe Ave., Athens, GA 30606; or the Alzheimer's Association , 1925 Century Blvd. NE, Ste. 10, Atlanta, GA 30345.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Eberhart, Walter Brooks, Bob Oglesby, Tom Oglesby, David Butler and Jimmie Butler.
