Louis Parkinson Maughan was the son of Ellen Ann Parkinson (1867-1930) and Daniel Hill Maughan (1865-1942).

Louis attended Wellsville schools and later enrolled in Brigham Young College in Logan. He helped his father on the farm with grain and beets. He contracted with farmers to thin beets at age sixteen also employed to test cattle for the State of Utah. 1912 found him in Idaho working for his brother, William, on a contract with the Power Company, to haul poles and wire for construction of the Grace Power Plant.

He married Florence Jane Allen (1894-1924) on December 8, 1915 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.

• Flora Jane (1922)

After Florence died, he married Ethel Dell Redford (1897-1983) on June 9, 1926 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah.

After Ethel and Louis were married they lived in Preston, Idaho, Santa Maria, California, and later in Hyrum, Utah, where he was manager of Allen's Store, Bishop in one of the Hyrum Wards, also mayor of Hyrum for eight years. They moved to Logan and he worked for the City operating the Hydro Electric Plant in Logan Canyon. Ethel and Louis were officiators in the Logan Temple.

Louis was a talented musician having studied voice while in England. He was invited to sing at a gathering of music clubs in Manchester. He was a member of the Logan Imperial Glee Club until his retirement.
