Mildred Estella Judd Ross, 95, of 1774 Farmington Avenue, Unionville village in Farmington, widow of Harold P. Ross, passed to her eternal reward after a protracted decline on Tuesday (November 3, 2009), fulfilling her wish that she be able to remain at her home.

She was born on Easter, April 12, 1914 at home in the Sleepy Hollow locality of (West) Avon, the first child of Walter Horace and Florence Estella (Tilley) Judd.

She attended the one-room Pine Grove School there until moving to her current home in Unionville in 1926 after the sale of her family's ancestral farms for the building of Avon Old Farms School.

Mildred graduated from Farmington High School, Class of 1932, and was an office clerk for Chas W House & Sons Inc, former Unionville felt manufacturers, until ceasing work outside of the home with the birth of her son. During World War II, she volunteered at the US Army's Old Farms Convalescent Hospital, Avon, where she met Harold, a sergeant in the training division for blinded veteran's.

Focused on her family and church, Mildred was a dedicated member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, Unionville for eighty years, serving variously in the choir and as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Frances Richards Club, a Trustee, and a director to the Tunxis Apartments Inc, the non-profit housing project founded and managed by the churches of the village.

Mildred is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Cynthia (Clement) Ross of Forestville; three grandchildren and their spouses: Matthew and Chalise (Nettleton) Ross of Unionville, Elissa and Sean Conroy of Manchester, and Krista and Benjamin Wagoner of Bristol; two great-grandsons, Nathaniel Ross and Braden Conroy; her sister, Arline (Judd) Olson of Farmington; her niece and god-daughter, Martha (Olson) Davis, and husband, delMonte, of Southampton, Bermuda; two nephews, Richard Judd of Indian Trail, NC, and Jed Carini and wife, Alison Friedkin, of Duxbury, VT; two grand-nieces and three grand-nephews, and dear extended family. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by their daughter, Eleanor; her siblings, Arnold W. Judd Sr., and Thelma (Judd) Carini; and two nephews.

Mildred's Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at First Church of Christ, Congregational, Tunxis Square, Route 4, Unionville.
Private Interment will be at the convenience of the family in their plot at West Avon Cemetery, Avon.
