Ivan Edgar Caneen Obituary
Ivan Edgar Caneen passed away on February 11, 1998, of causes incident to age. He died at home in West Point, Utah surrounded by his family.
Ivan was born in Portville, New York, the son of Pearl Elwell and Edgar Thomas Caneen.
Ivan enlisted in the US Air Force in 1942 and served his country for the next three years during WWII. He flew 25 successful bombing missions over Germany as a B-17 waist gunner in the 385th bomber group of the legendary 8th Air Force. He attained the rank of staff sergeant. While on leave in Oklahoma City, he met and fell in love with his wife of 53 years, Gloria Chrysler.
Ivan loved big band music and he and Gloria liked to dance. They married on October 31, 1944. After the war, they settled in western New York state, with the majority of the next 22 years spent in Gowanda, New York. Ivan was self-employed as a TV repairman and part-time projectionist at the Hollywood Theater. In 1971, the Caneens moved to Provo, Utah, where Ivan worked for the next 17 years as an electrician for the Provo School District. He also worked as a projectionist at the Fox Theater for many years. After retirement, he and Gloria became members of the Squaw Peak chapter of the Good Sams RV group. Together with their camping friends, they toured many different highways and byways of Utah for the next 11 years.
He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Leon and Jerome; three children: Steven of St. Pete Beach, Florida; Jeffery of Kuhuku, Hawaii; and Nancie (Richard) Roginski of West Point, Utah; six grandchildren: Mick, Clint, Renee, and Aaron Caneen, and Erin Marie and Alexander Roginski; and two greatgrandchildren, Jake and Joseph Caneen. Preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Patricia and Sylvia; his brother, Neal; and a grandson, Patrick.
We take comfort in knowing that they are all together again.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, 1998, at 11:00 a.m. in the Manila Stake Center, 105 West 1800 North, Pleasant Grove, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the American Fork City Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by District IV of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Salvation Army in Ivan's name.
