After graduating from college, Larry traveled to Michigan to visit a college friend. He looked around, liked what he saw and decided to stay. Tana, his college sweetheart came to Detroit soon after, and they were married there in 1971. They settled permanently in Detroit, and raised their family there.
Larry's work life covered a wide variety of diverse jobs. When he first came to Detroit, he worked on the docks along the river, unloading ships. He worked as a substitute teacher in the Detroit Public Schools teaching Special Education. He also worked at the Lafayette Clinic in Detroit, specializing in child care issues.
Along the way, he obtained a Masters Degree in Urban Planning from Wayne State University, where he also studied accounting.
Larry began his career with the Federal Government in 1979. Working for the IRS in Detroit. After about 14 years, he transferred to U.S. Customs (now CBP) Regulatory Audit Division. He was an outstanding public speaker, and was often called upon to make CBP presentations. His most recent was at the Canadian Import/Export Annual Convention in October 2007, where he joined with experts from Canada and Mexico in a presentation on NAFTA rules and regulations.
Larry's hobbies were many and included his favorite, cooking and eating. He was an avid reader and loved anything from history to science fiction and from western novels to the classics.
Larry is sadly missed by his loving wife Tana, his three children, Lauren Luis and Lance, grandson Gene, his brothers and sisters, and his many friends.
Rest in Peace big brother.
