Henry "Hank" James Abel was born to Merton P. Abel and Margaret Tyndall. He was raised on a farm in Michigan. He became a carpenter and laborer.

In time, Hank began spending the winters in Texas where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Following the death of his first wife, Hank left Michigan for good and settled in San Antonio, Texas. Here, he met and married Elsie S. Tolle.

On September 27, 1968, Hank passed away at the University of Texas Medical Center in Galveston of an Intra-abdominal hemorrhage. He was 67 years old.

Hank was laid to rest at San Fernando Cemetery # 2 in San Antonio.
