1st Sergeant John Jarrett
1758 - 1829

John Jarrett (1758-1829), is the son of Daniel Jarrett, Esquire from Surry County, Virginia and Susanna Cheaterena Weaver Jarrett (written on deeds as: Cheaterene.) John Jarrett married Elizabeth Fisher, (1770-1841), daughter of Martin B Fisher and Maria Margareth Kreuter. John died 24 January 1829 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.

Recorded Children to this union include:
Hannah Jarrett Davis, "John" Jacob Jarrett, John "Jacob" Jarrett, Jonas Jarrett, Mary Elizabeth "Petcy" Jarrett Peterson, Kiziah "Kissa" Jarrett Wilfong, Elias Jarrett, Absolom Jarrett, Daniel John Jarrett, Jones Jarrett

Just as his father Daniel, builder of Dutch Buffalo Creek Church, John Jarrett was a Lutheran, Founder and Builder of Grace Lutheran Church. The land that was sold to the Lutheran congregation to build the new Lutheran Church, was part of the land that John's brother Samuel Jarrett ( -1806) purchased as part of his inheritance, from his father Daniel Jarrett. Daniel Jarrett and his wife made an Indenture to Samuel Jarrett (-1806) for 250 Acres of land, originally 1000 Acres of Frohock land that Daniel purchased from John Frohock in 1774. In 1775, the Indenture made between Daniel Jarrett of Rowan, and Samuel Jarrett of Rowan, Sum of 50 pounds proclamation money to heir in hand, paid by Samuel Jarrett for one certain tract of land in Tryon County. Samuel was one of the heirs for part of this land and in 1797, Samuel sold a little over three acres to the congregation of Grace Lutheran Church.

Many are confusing this John(1758-1829), Samuel ( - 1806), their sister Sarah Jarrett Speagle and their brother Phillip (1750-1802), as being from Pennsylvania. This John Jarrett Family are not from Germany or Pennsylvania. This John Jarrett Family is from France, and England, who immigrated to British Colonial America (Virginia} in 1606, which becomes Jamestown, the first permanent English Settlement. William Jarrett II, son of William Jarrett, London, England, set sail in 1606 and landed in Jamestown in 1607. William Jarrett was granted 200 Acres of land by "The Virginia Company of London," in the territory of "The Great Weyanoke" Virginia. This is how our Jarrett family started in America.

Many get confused by the spelling of the name. No matter how William's last name is spelled, records show that this is how our Jarrett family started in America. Ancestry shows 8 records for William traveling to America, as US Passenger Lists, Arrivals 1606. Remember these records have all been transcribed from original records of The Virginia Company of London, Volume I-IV; or re-transcribed. Any record is only as good as the person who transcribes it. William's name appears 4 times as Garrett and 4 times as Jarrett. Another has Jarrat. The Virginia Carolorum shows Garrett/Jarrett, being the same person in the index, but Garrett on the actual page. All records of The Virginia Company of London show William Jarret; unless they are re-transcribed by someone at a later date from the originals or another record, in which it has been seen to change to Garrett.

John Jarrett's father, Daniel Jarrett (1725), was born in Lawnes Creek Parish, Surry County, Virginia, son of John Jarrett, Elder of Southwark Parish. Daniel Jarrett moved to Mecklenburg County, North Carolina at an early age. He was the builder of the Dutch Buffalo Creek Church.

John Jarrett's mother appears to be Susanna Cheaterena Weaver Jarrett, who signs her name on the family land conveyances as: Cheaterene, Clinalerena, Chatarina. It is difficult to tell which is correct as of now.

Mecklenburg County was formed in 1762, and records show Daniel living there as early as 1781. Many have John (1758-1829) being born in Lincoln County, although Lincoln was formed in 1779, therefore, John is listed here as being born in Rowan County, formed from Anson County in 1753. Records show he married Elizabeth Fisher in Rowan County.

John Jarrett married Elizabeth Fisher on April 14, 1789 in Rowan County, North Carolina. Elizabeth Fisher is the daughter of Martin B Fisher and Maria Kreuter. John And Elizabeth are buried at Grace Lutheran Church, in Newton, Catawba County, North Carolina.

They have 10 Recorded Children:
