Mary Lou was born January 25, 1935, in Iowa, the daughter of Bill and Ruth (Morris) Gaule. She married Thomas Acton on August 9, 1952, in Chatham, Illinois at St. Joseph's Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother; a sister; and a grandson.
She is survived by six children; four daughters, Mindy Landers of Auburn, Barb (husband, Gary) Fleck and Nona (Robert Jones) Woods, both of Springfield, and Amy (husband, Shane) Hill of Chatham; two sons, Tom (wife, Brenda) Acton of Chatham and Larry (wife, Kathy) Acton of Riverton; 11 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Conkrite of Springfield; brother, Bill (wife, Marge) Gaule of Chatham; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary Lou was a homemaker for many years and then worked at Dickey-john Corp. for many years. She loved painting, sewing and reading. She was an especially outgoing person, never meeting a stranger. She leaves behind many dear friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at Bramley Funeral Home, Auburn. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Benedict's Church Holy Cross Parish in Auburn with Rev. Kevin Laughery officiating. Burial in Chatham Cemetery.
