As we ponder over his departure at a time when the future was just unfolding, we wonder why, yet it is not for us to understand that one such as he should be taken.
'Tis hard to break the tender cord
Where love has bound the heart;
'Tis hard, so hard, to speak the words.
We must forever part.
Yet again we hope to meet thee
When the days of life are fled.
And in heaven with joy to greet thee
Where no farewell tears are shed.
We loved him, yes we loved him.
But the Angels loved him more
And they have sweetly called him home.
To yonder blissful shore.
The golden gates were opened
A gentle voice said "come,"
And with farewell unspoken,
He comely entered home.
