Sgt. Willie E. Honaker, 24 a former resident of this area was killed in Viet Nam shortly after midnight on Sept. 6 the defense Department announced.

His company had gone ashore in landing craft to battle Viet Cong and when fighting became heavy, his unit was ordered back to the boats. While jumping from one boat to another to reach his craft, Honaker slipped and fell between two boats and was crushed to death.

A native of Charlestown, W.V., Honaker had lived in this area from the time he was eight years old until he enlisted in the Army in 1962.

He took his basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO., and served two years in Korea before being stationed at Ft. Knox. He was reassighned to Viet Nam in May of this year.

He attended Clarksville High School and the Wesley Chapel Church.

Survivors include his wife and four month old child; his mother Mrs. Lyda West, and sister Barbara, Both of Clarksville; and two brothers, Billy Miller, Louisville, and Bob Miller, Cleveland, Ohio.
