He was the son of Clarence and Mildred (Merrill) Nier. By the time he was five, both of his parents had died. As a child, he and his brother, Clarence, lived south of Oakwood with foster parents, Earl and Kate McClure. He graduated from Oakwood High School and served in the US Maqrine Corps during WW II.
He was married to Janet Fuller but they divorced.
He is survived by a daughter Wendy Stephy and a sister, Dorothy Plowman of Baltimore. He was proceeded in death by his natural parents, his foster parents, Earl and Kate McClure and two infant sons, James Orville and Melvin Lloyd and a brother Clarence.
He retired from the Continental Water Works Department. he was a life time member of the Continental American Legion, and the Grover Hill VFW. He was also a member of the National Quarter Pony Association.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, with American Legion Chaplain Bill Bellman officiating. Military services will be accorded by Continental American Legion Post 541 at the funeral home.
