He was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii and traveled the world as a Merchant Marine before marrying and settling in South San Francisco where he worked as a warehouseman for Chase Brass & Cooper. Also known as "Slim", he was a well-known pool player throughout the Bay Area and frequently fished at Pacifica Pier. An avid gardener, Mr. Kong spent many hours in his garden and generously shared his fruits and vegetables with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Nancy (neรฉ Torigoe) and survived by his daughters Deborah and Kathy.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Garden Chapel, 885 El Camino Real, South San Francisco, with a 3:00 p.m. Graveside Service at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, California.
