Amanda Newcomer Shertzer, 96, of Landis Homes retirement community, Lititz R3, died there Sunday morning after an illness of one month. She formerly lived at 34 Manor Ave., Millersville. Miss Shertzer, also known as "Miss Amanda," sold baked goods and fruits and vegetables that were raised on her family's farm in Millersville. She sold her goods at Lancaster markets and later sold door to door in the city, retiring in 1975. Until she was 94, Miss Shertzer worked in her yard and maintained her home. She was known for keeping poinsettias in her windows. Miss Shertzer was a member of Millersville Mennonite Church for 83 years. She was a member and taught Sunday School for more than 40 years. She was active in the senior sewing circle for more than 80 years. Born in Millersville, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Funk and Susan Buckwalter Newcomer Shertzer.
