Crystal Falls Gridder Dies
Mark McKernan, 17, an Upper Peninsula high school athlete, died Saturday in a hospital here 16 hours after he collapsed when tackled during a football game.
McKernan, a senior and halfback at Crystal Falls High School, died of a ruptured blood vessel in the head. A medical examiner said the death was not believed to have been caused by a football injury.
McKernan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Philip McKernan, collapsed after he was tackled on an end run in the second quarter of Friday's Crystal Falls -L'Anse game. He never regained consciousness
