Marvin enlisted in the Army. He was inducted at Abilene, TX, going to Camp Polk, Louisiana for basic training. From there he was transferred to Camp Carson, Colorado, to prepare for active duty. Because he wore a size 14D shoe and there were not any military shoes or boots this size, he did not have to take full military orders because he could not be in full uniform. For this reason, he was separated from full duty from 15 Dec 1943, until 15 Feb 1944 when he was returned to active duty upon receiving shoes and boots.

He served with the Company K - 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division. He served in Northern Farnce, Rhineland, Central Eugope, and Ardennes.

He was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was wounded in Germany on 03 Apr 1945 after being shot throught the thigh and was sent to the hospital in Paris France. After discharge from the hospital, he returned home to the US.

Marvin received the Purple Heart, the EMAET Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.

He served 3 years, 1 month, and 24 days in service and remained in the reserves.

He married Ellen Hackney 09 Feb 1946 in Seymour, Baylor, Texas. They had no children of their own but raised several foster children.
