HUTCHINS - At the residence of Mr H. Cox, on Thursday, 1st March, Ellen maria, the beloved wife of James Hutchins, aged 45 years.
The death is announced of Mrs James Hutchins, an old and highly respected resident of Woodville and lately residing at Tongaporutu. The late Mrs Hutchins was the first lady to reside in Wiidville, having arriver here in 1875. She and her husband lived in a tent on the Masterton Road, the latter being engaged felling bush on the late Mr Westoby's section. After that they removed to the Gorge, where they resided for 12 months. They then came to reside in Woodville, where Mr Hutchins commenced business as a shoemaker in a little shop where The Examiner office now stands. Two years ago the family went to live at Tongaporutu.
Mr Joseph Barrott's family was the first to reside in the district, but Mrs Hutchins was the first lady to settle in Woodville.
Much sympathy will be extended to mr Hutchins and the family in their sad bereavement.
Funeral Notice The friends of Mr James Hutchins are respectfully requested to attend the funeral of his late wife, which will leave Mr H. Cox's residence, Woodlands Road, for the Woodville Cemetery at 2 o'clock Saturday.
Thanks James Hutchins returns his sincere thanks to his Woodville friends for their expressions of sympathy for him and his family in their sad bereavement; and he especially thanks Mr and Mrs Cox, of Woodlands Road, for their great kindness of his late wife during her illness.
