Velma Graduated from Dodsonville High School in Dodsonville, Texas in May of 1936. Velma was married to Thomas Emeral Lewis. She and Emeral farmed in the Olton, Texas community until moving to their ranch south of Holdenville, Oklahoma in 1956.
She worked side by side with Emeral on the farm and ranch. The days were long and the work was hard, but those were the happiest days of her life. Velma was a devoted Christian and Homemaker. She had been a faithful member of Capitol Heights Missionary Baptist Church since 1956. Her home was always open to visiting family, friends, preachers, and missionaries. She was known for her sewing and cooking skills. She always had a freezer full of Blue Bell Ice Cream and wonderful memories and stories to share. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Velma is preceded in death by her beloved husband Thomas Emeral Lewis, sons Meredith and Marion, sisters Amo Fillpot, Oma Whitehead, Vena Castleman, and brothers John Smith and A.B. Smith.
She is survived by her daughter Drucella Paschen, daughter-in-law Rose Lewis of Arlington, Texas, grandsons Stacey Lewis, Shelby Lewis, Matt Paschen, grand daughter Kazanna Price, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and by her wonderful friends Earl and Melba Cook of Holdenville, Oklahoma.
