Son of George William Pulford and his wife Ada Elizabeth Pulford (nee Buffey). John Pulford was part of the Dambusters Flight Crew that flew the Lancaster Bomber into Germany in 1943. A year later their flight crashed into a hillside in Upwaltham, West Sussex on it's way home from a raid in 1944. The Crew had just returned from an attack on the Antheor Viaduct in Southern France before flying on to their base at Woodhall Spa, Lincs and a thick fog was in the air creating low visibility. Sgt. Pulford was a Flight Sergeant for the Royal Air Force, 652403, joining in 1939. His unit was the 617 squadron. He was awarded the DFM. He died at age 23 or 24 on February 13th, 1944 and was buried on February 18th. His death was registered in Midhurst.

The burial record indicates his age at 23. The death indexes have his age at 24.

Burial number 24214.

*The photograph shows him, second crew member from the left. Gravestone photographed by volunteer Barbara who was so kind enough to do this for me, friend of F.A.G member Darealjolo.
