OBITUARY
North Ogden - Larry Mark West passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family September 25, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born on March 14, 1947 to goodly parents, Keith Clarence and Helen Child West. He lived his boyhood life in Syracuse, Utah.
He served an honorable mission in the France Switzerland Mission.
Larry married Kathleen Douglass, his wife of 38 years, May 12, 1971. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. Together they raised 6 awesome children and have lived most of their married life in North Ogden, Utah. He was employed at Western Zirconium for 27 years.
Larry was a master craftsman and took meticulous pride creating beautiful woodwork including 3 cedar chests when his daughters graduated high school. He taught his sons the value of hard work. Larry was an avid outdoorsman with a passion for the mountains. He shared his love of mountain climbing, fishing and motorcycling with his sons and daughters. The love Larry had for the mountains was instilled in his children and many other friends and loved ones. Larry conquered many of the highest peaks in North America and was a true adventurer exploring many of our country's beautiful wildernesses; his favorite was the Tetons, climbing many challenging routes on that mountain. Larry also loved cars and one of his favorite pass times was tinkering with his Porsche. Larry loved road trips and traveling with his wife.
Larry's children and grandchildren will always have the memories of spending Sunday with, having dinner and laughing about the good times.
Larry was preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother Helen Child West; brother Dennis Keith West and a grandson Bryce Ryan Martin. He is survived by his loving wife Kathleen Douglass West; father Keith Clarence West; sister Rhonda K. (Dana) Pickard; sister-in-law Linda West; 6 children, Corey Mark (Lisa) West, Barry Douglass West, Jamie Lynn (Jason) Langeveld, Melanie Ann Barney, Michael Keith (Annie) West, Allison Marie (Ryan) Martin; also survived by 16 ½ grandchildren. Dad, you're the Greatest Great!
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2009 at the Ben Lomond 5th Ward Chapel, 1050 East 3350 North. Friends may on Sunday at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Syracuse City Cemetery, 1290 So. 1000 W.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the Doctors and nurses who cared for Larry. Intermountain Hospice Care provided extreme comfort and care in Larry's passing, and made his passing a comfort for his family.
