Ruth M. Spain, 81, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at Brenham Rest Home.

Ruth was born Sept. 6, 1928 in Brenham to parents William John Lewis Roberts, Jr. and Dorothy DeWalt (Hughes) Roberts. She graduated from Brenham High School and attained a B.S. Degree in Art from Scripps College in California.

On May 20, 1950, she was united in marriage to Benjamin Lawrence Spain in St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Brenham by Rev. S. Moylan Bird.

Ruth was an artist, housewife and was employed by Brenham Rest Home as their activity director for almost 10 years. Her hobbies were painting and art. She was a long- standing member of DAR and UDC.

Her parents and husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include her only child, William "Bill" Spain of Chappell Hill, along with numerous cousins, friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today at Brenham Memorial Chapel.

Graveside services at Prairie Lea Cemetery will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009 with Rev. Calvin Beckendorf officiating.

Memorial gifts may be given to Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.

Funeral services are in the care of Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer, Brenham.
