She was described as someone who hated confrontation. But when it came to animals, the late Mary Klink had no fear. Ms. Klink, 48, served as the animal control officer for Upper Freehold for 20 years before her passing, and was also the officer in Plumsted and other nearby areas.

"Her passing was sudden," Mayor Stephen Alexander said. "We have lost a great employee and a great person."

Township Committee members spoke during the meeting about Ms. Klink's absolute love for animals, and the way she would handle any situation that arose.

"It was her love for animals," said Committeeman Stanley Moslowski. "I don't think she thought it was a job. She loved any animal."

Ms. Klink also was the animal control officer for Plumsted for 20 years.

Upper Freehold mourns the loss of a woman Mayor Alexander called "the sweetest person on Earth."

"She had a lot of two-legged friends," Committeewoman LoriSue Mount said, "but she sure had a lot of four-legged friends."

Ms. Klink is survived by her mother, Ruby, sister Kathy Gerardi, niece Katlyn Gerardi, and nephew David Gerardi.

Funeral services were held at the Peppler Funeral Home in Allentown, with interment following at Emley's Hill Cemetery, in Cream Ridge.
