During her short life, Amanda was a victim of child abuse but despite her grandmother and others reporting her abuse to Adams County abuse line their pleas fell on deaf ears. A case worker even dismissed the bruises on Amanda's spine. One witness who reported the abuse said she had seen Amanda beaten to the point where she was black and blue. At the time of her death Amanda had broken ribs that had been healing for weeks. At the time her death Amanada haemorrhaged from an internal injury, possibly caused by squeezing or repeatedly striking her chest and back.
