She was born Aug. 23, 1955, in Milan, the daughter of Hobert and Cora Duke Kelly. She was raised in Bennington and was a 1973 graduate of Switzerland County High School. She was the first freshman to become a varsity cheerleader and served as captain of the squad. She attended Ivy Tech Community College. She was a wife and mother, and enjoyed helping her husband the past 20 years with Cook's vegetable and produce stand on Clifty Drive. She also enjoyed helping the Welch family with the German Corner and traveling to all the festivals and shows for 20 years. She most recently had traveled the book festivals for the past five years. During her recent rehabilitation at Thornton Terrace, she felt a new calling to help people in rehabilitation, and had hoped to return to Thornton Terrace to do that. She was a member of Kent Christian Church as well as the Brushy Fork Baptist Church, and served at both churches whenever needed. She enjoyed enjoyed music, dancing, singing, playing the piano, traveling and collecting Boyd's Bears.
She is survived by her husband, Gary R. Cook, whom she married Aug. 5, 1972; two daughters, Shanna Cook of New York, N.Y., and Nicole Cook-Ficaro of New Orleans, La.; one son, Sean Cook of Owingsville, Ky.; her mother of North Vernon; one brother, Danney Kelley of Madison; four sisters, Nancy Griffith of Madison, Evelyn Morris of North Vernon, Geraldine Reed of North Vernon and Barbara Hornsby of Hanover; one granddaughter; two aunts and uncles; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, who died Dec. 18, 2006.
The funeral was at Kent Christian Church. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
