George Meridith Baccus, son of Peter M. Bacus, Jr. lived a very colorful life. His grandmother raised him in San Antonio after the death of his mother. As a young man he was a cowboy and bronco rider making a circuit of the fairs where he competed for money. These fairs where the forerunners of present day rodeos. At one time he owned the long-horned steer that Barnum later got for his circus.

He serve two terms as a Texas Ranger, 1889-1893 which he says was an extremely hard life.

In 1901, he was sheriff in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He came to Oregon in 1910 and to Washington in 1920. He died in Rainier, Washington on 1/25/1953.
