Born September 28, 1932, in Watonga to Jesse Lloyd and Mabel Alice (Logsdon) Oxley, he had been a resident of Madisonville since 1972, having come from Houston. He graduated from the South Texas College of Law in Houston with a doctor of jurisprudence. He had practiced law in Madisonville since 1972, was county attorney in Madison County for 16 years and served on the board of directors for the National Bank of Madisonville.
He was a pilot in the US Navy.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Loyd Albertson.
Memorial may be made to the American Heart Association or to the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville.
Survivors include his wife LaVerne Oxley, a son John L. Oxley, Jr., Madisonville, Texas, a daughter, Lori Melinda Oxley Burton, Spring, Texas; two sisters, Betty Bourke, Watsonville, Calif., and Vivian Well, Escondido, Calif and three grandchildren.
